Nearly 40 years ago, then governor, Jerry Brown signed SB86, legalizing the practice of acupuncture in California. Last week, Dr. Wu met Jerry Brown and presented him with a translated copy of “The Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Internal Medicine.” We wish the best for Jerry Brown in the upcoming election!

Dr. Hong and Dr. Wu Meditation Lecture

On Memorial Day Weekend 2010, Dr. Wu and Dr. Hong, a renowned meditation master from Taiwan, gave a great lecture on mediation and relaxation. The three day event was very enjoyable and informative for all attendees. A three DVD recording of the event can be purchased at Dr. Wu’s front desk for $15.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma patients, Chinese medicine and acupuncture can help you to be able to see again. I’d like to share this good news with you.

My mother who has glaucoma for nearly one year is able to see again. One eye is completely blind and the other eye can only function at about 10%. She cannot see any lines at all. We went to see an ophthalmologist. There, we learned that the pressure of the left eye was above 50 and the right eye was above 30. The eye doctor said that it is too late to do anything, but to prescribe the eye drop anyway.

Then, luckily we have found a miracle. We have to call it a miracle because my mother now is able to see again. The miracle comes from Dr. Wu treatment using Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Dr Wu is an open-minded, intelligent, kind and very patient person. Just after three visits with Dr. Wu, my mother is able to read lines again. We went back to check with the eye doctor several times. The vision tests also confirmed that my mother’s eyesight have improved drastically. The eye pressure for the left eye has done down to around 15. The eye pressure for the right eye has gone down to around 16. The normal pressure for normal eyesight is below 20. This is what we call a miracle.

So, we want to share this will all the glaucoma patients. You can see again with the acupuncture and Chinese medicine offered by Dr. Wu.

Cradle Cap

Attached are three photos of my daughter in order of progression. Photo one is our first visit, (12/3/09) photo two (12/21/09) our second visit and photo three was taken at Christmas showing her free of craddle cap!

For many months prior to seeing you, I tried lots of different products and treatments to get rid of it including special craddle cap shampoos, creams, olive oil and combs, but nothing worked until we saw you. After just one month and three visits your acupuncture treatments cured her craddle cap.

Nervous Tic

我是一个八岁男孩的妈妈. 我想讲讲带我儿子在Dr.吴这里看病的经历. 一句话, 如果不是Dr.吴, 我都不知道我的日子会怎么过. 今年一月底的一天, 我发现我儿子摇头, 我还以为是他学的坏毛病, 就警告他, 这是坏毛病不要再摇了. 那天晚上当我跟他说Good Night 时, 我发现他在哭. 我于是问他为什么哭, 他说:”妈妈, 我知道我摇头, 可我控制不住”. 我听了他的话, 我的脑袋轰的一下, 人愣在那儿, 我立刻意识到Something Wrong, 可我怎么也想不明白到底哪里不对. 我希望他自己会恢复. 又过了一个星期, 他摇头的情况越来越糟, 频率更快, 幅度更大. 我先带他去看了他的Paediatrician, 医生说可能是TICS, 但不确定. 我问医生如果是TICS该怎么治, 他说没法治. 如果严重到无法正常生活, 上学的地步, 就要用西药, 但是药的副作用非常大, 对小孩的发育有影响, 同时他说, 这种病通常都是由于紧张, 恐惧引起, 他让我们不要Push我儿子, 尽量让他Relax. 听了医生的话, 回到家里, 我只盼着奇迹发生, 一睁眼睛我儿子好了, 不摇头了. 可是情况完全背着我的期望发展. 看着我聪明, 漂亮的儿子变成这样, 我的心都碎了. 每天晚上我都睡不着, 我都在心里问: 谁能救救我儿子? 终于一天晚上已经十点多了, 我实在控制不住自己的情绪, 拿起电话拨通了我一个最好的朋友的号码, 她听了以后说:”你有没有试试中医? 试试针灸? 如果想试, 就去找吴奇, 他可是湾区针灸的NO.1.” (我要谢谢我的这位好朋友, 如果不是她, 真不知道我还要在黑暗中徘徊多久). 第二天一大早, 我就拨通了Dr.吴诊所的电话, 约了下午的Appointment. 见了面, 讲了我儿子的情况, Dr吴说: “别怕, 有治. 这种儿童抽动症的小孩我治好了不少.” 我一听, 紧张了半个多月的心终于放下了. 第一次针灸我儿子的情况就开始好转, 频率少了, 摇的幅度也小了, 晚上我终于可以睡着觉了. 第三次针灸以后他就停止了摇头. 后来又去了几次巩固一下. 从二月底到六月底一直很好, 六月底的时候, 他又开始吸鼻子, 同时嗓子发出 “吭坑吭” 的声音, 因为有上次经验, 我知道他的抽动症又复发了, 虽然没有摇头, 但是我担心会严重, 于是又到Dr. 吴这里来针灸, 这次除了针灸, Dr. 吴又给了我一些钩藤, 白菊花, 让我冲泡当茶给我儿子喝. 现在我儿子正在治疗当中, 情况好很多, 吸鼻子的动作已经没有, 只是有时还会发出 “吭吭吭” 的声音. 想想这半年带儿子看病的经历真是感慨万千. 儿童抽动症是疑难杂症, 从西医的角度来讲是没法治, 如果严重到无法控制就用一些麻痹神经的药, 副作用很大, 我们这些做妈妈的怎能接受. 惟有中医, 尤其是针灸, 从我儿子的情况来看, 效果很好. 我原来对针灸也是似信非信, 但现在完全被它折服了. 另外, 找个好医生固然重要, 但是找对医生才是看好病的捷径. Dr. 吴是我非常信赖和钦佩的医生. 我不懂中医, 不懂针灸, 但是几千年的历史证明, 中医自有存在的道理. 最后我要提醒所有的妈妈们, 儿童抽动症很容易误诊, 因为小孩子经常会从眨眼睛, 吸鼻子, 发出 “吭吭吭” 的声音开始, 所以经常被误以为是眼疾, 鼻炎或感冒来治. 最后愿天下所有的小孩子们都健康, 你们的健康就是给你们的妈妈们最好的礼物.

Ulcerative Colitis

For years, I have battled with Ulcerative Colitis. Steroids were the only thing that could get my symptoms under control. Going onto steroids meant having to decide between feeling bad today versus the terrible side effects that come with any steroid regimen. One morning I caught myself thinking that 25 trips to the bathroom was better than the weight gain and emotional swings associated with the drugs. I knew there had to be a better way. Under the care of Dr. Wu, I am feeling better now than I have in 5 years. I am completely off of steroids and all other forms of western medicine. Though there is a lot more healing to do, at least Dr. Wu has my mind and my body on the right track to a healthier, happier future.

Nasopharyngeal Cancer

In January 2009 I was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer. The treatment would consist of radiation therapy and chemo therapy at a hospital. The entire treatment would last for about 6 months.

Through a friend’s recommendation I started acupuncture treatment at Dr. Wu’s office right before the radiation and chemo therapies. The acupuncture treatment was done in parallel to the radiation and chemo therapies.

Radiation and chemo therapies brought very intense and negative side effects that included the following: dry mouth, mouth sores, skin irritation around the neck, loss of appetite, loss of taste, nasal congestion, loss of voice, lower white blood cell count, etc. I also suffered loss of hearing in my right ear because of fluid accumulation.

As the radiation and chemo therapies continued all the doctors and nurses were very surprised that the intensity of the negative side effects that I suffered was much less than that of other patients. Also, I was able to recover very quickly from the negative side effects. I personally attribute these 2 factors above to Dr. Wu’s acupuncture sessions since that’s the only thing I did that other patients did not.

I also found Dr. Wu and his staff to be very professional and encouraging. The kind words I received from Dr. Wu certainly helped me get through the intensive radiation and chemo therapies.

As of early July the tumor in my body is gone. This is confirmed with an MRI scan and 2 doctor’s examinations.

Neuropathy

Hello Dr. Wu, I just want to thank you for all the help you are giving me. I have peripheral neuropathy. I have been seeing you for about 2-3 months now and am amazed how much acupuncture has been helping with the pain. I rarely feel any pain in my left leg anymore. My right leg is my worst leg. When I come in to get treatment, it takes the pain away totally until the next day. I have also noticed that my leg is feeling looser. It is not so constricted, therefore, I am able to move it around a lot better. I look forward to our next visit.

Dystonia

Dr Wu, I’m writing to thank you for my treatment that seems to be working and allowing me more mobility and better quality of life.

In late 1991, I had a brain aneurysm and had my motor skills greatly disrupted. I had to learn to walk and talk again. In 2005, I noticed a strange motion in my right foot while walking. My Doctor sent me to a neurologist for further diagnosis. His feeling was, it is a “gift” from the aneurysm and was affecting my right side. It progressed up my leg and also it affects my right shoulder, in range of motion. As I have clips in my brain, I cannot have an MRI and the various CT scans do not show the back area. He has tried various drugs to no avail. I use an AFO (ankle foot orthosis) on my right foot and lower leg for mobility.

I was referred to the Stanford Neuroscience Clinic (in 2006) for their opinion and have had tests at the Motion and Gait Analysis Lab at Lucile Packard Hosp. They confirmed my original neurologist’s opinion that I had an element of dystonia. They recommended botox injections in my right hamstring to give me more knee extension, injections started in Jan 2007. These just helped mobility, but not the progress of the afflicition.

In June of 2008, I noticed a twisting motion in my knee, which the botox does not do anything for. My hair dresser, Tex , is Vietnamese and his grandmother is alive and well today in Viet Nam due to acupuncture. He is a patient of Dr Wu’s and said I should try him and see the effect. I went to you in June 2008 and the treatment you did over 6 sessions stopped the twisting motion and improved my balance. I continue now every 4 weeks for treatment and have had no reoccurrence of the twisting and just feel better all around. I have not fallen in months and feel better getting around.

These treatments have done more for me than any of the medicines I have tried. I have a better quality of life now. I will continue with the neurologist and botox injections, but also my monthly appointments with you.
